The Nigerian Telecommunication Satellite-one is falling out of its flight path just 18 months after launch. The satellite was built by the China Great Wall Industry Corporation at a cost of N40 billion. It was supposed to provide broadband internet and telecommunications for the nation and the sub-region.
Abimbola Alale, marketing director of the satellite agency, confirmed that the satellite was not working; he said that it could, and would be repaired.
Paul Ceruzzi, curator of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, says it is unusual for new satellites to fall.
